so not to brag but i have been a pretty good student from the very beginning of my school time till the present when i am in my final year oof school. but ironically enough my mother always nagged me about my studies well she still does because i never put in more than 3 hours unlike my sister who pretty much studied like 8 hours when she was in school. the one thing i always told her and still do is that i am studying just in a different way. do not worry i will figure it out. and thankfully i always do. so today i am going to be sharing with you few things that i do to study efficiently and still manage to take out time to watch movies and spend time with my family. if you like the blog do check out my you tube channel as well .okay so lets get started.
1. figuring out my energy hours
so when i was in 10 th std i fell into the comparison spiral and started to put in 8 hours of study time although 4 to 5 hours from there i spent procrastinating only. after a week i realized nope. not my cup of tea. i was so exhausted and burnt out in just 7 days that i wasn't able to study properly for the next week. then i came across this video on you tube that spoke about energy hours and gave it a shot. basically , there are people that are early risers and night owls and some are just in the middle. so in the x axis you are gonna write the time that us morning , afternoon, evening, night. along the y axis you are gonna write time and you draw a curve as to at what time your energy is the highest and at what time it is at the lowest point.
after figuring out your most productive hours you put the hardest subject in that hour and in the least productive hour you do things like taking rest, watch movies or whatever helps you relax.
2.finding out what type of learner you are.
there are actually 4 types of learners - visual, auditory , reading/writing , kinesthetic.
i think most of them are pretty self explanatory except for kinesthetic. basically, the visual learner will remember stuff by what they have seen for example diagrams or flow charts. auditory learners will mostly remember stuff they have heard from the teacher. a reading/writing learners tends to remember stuff by reading the textbook or notes and writing answers continuously until they have it memorized. finally the kinesthetic learner will remember things that are more practically exercised for example by teaching someone. the first thing you can do is take a free 5 minute test online about this or you can look back to your times in the exams and try to remember in what way you were able to write most of the answers.
personally i am mostly a visual and auditory learner. so what i like to do is i read the textbook while actively listening to my own voice. along with this i also try to listen properly when the teacher or lecturer on you tube is saying rather than focusing on the visuals there cuz common what is there in our boring classes to observe. but seriously really listening to the teacher does helps.
3.making your own study routine.
i know how everyone hates routines and timetables and trust me i do too. i also do not want to follow someone else's routine that is created according to their benefits and comfort. so it is really important to create one of your own. cuz listen my mom always made me sit down to study ever since i was 6 years old at this specific time of 8 pm. so now whenever it is 8 pm my mind automatically wants to sit down at the study table and be productive. similarly i trained my mind the same way for 9 am in the morning and the other times that i study may vary but these three hours are my constant every single day.so after you figure out your productive hours you are going to create a routine around it. also there are hundreds of methods to study available. you need to find out the ones that suit you. i have tried almost all the techniques out there but merely one or two of them worked for me. for example. the pomodoro technique is so popular but that thing just did not work out for me. i constantly kept looking at the timer for it to end rather than actually studying and when it ended when i take a break no matter what i do when i come back i just cant focus. but the 3 minute rule worked wonders for me where you do something for 3 minute and after 3 min you don't wanna do it then you drop it and do something else but most probably you are gonna continue. the only way to figure out your ways only trial and error method is there unfortunately there is no other way. but it is actually a fun little experiment to do.
4.relating what you are studying with real learning.
so i recently learned this. our brain is naturally wired to learning that is it like to learn different knowledges. so wonder why you feel sleepy while studying , it is because we find it boring, whatever we are studying we find no relation of it in our real life. some king rules 2000 years ago how does that concerns us right i used to think this way all the time but when i started observing my environment and connecting how even today impacts of all the decisions of the past are still being felt today, how people used to think back in the time what their mindsets were , suddenly history became interesting and my favorite subject. so all it takes is a little change in mindset and being more present in the moment to observe all the knowledge you learned in textbooks to exist in front of you.
5. listen to your instinct or more precisely your body.
studying when your burnt out when your mind just cant do it anymore is such a big mistake. we have all heard the advice...take small breaks. but no one talks about how both the break and study time differs from person to person and from time to time. for me personally there is a certain period of time till which i can focus . after that time no matter if i take a five or 20 min break i am just unable to focus and more likely to procrastinate. so after i study with intensive focus i give my brain as much time as it needs to recover and generally its 30 minutes of time for an hour. i know it might be extreme for some. but it does works for me cuz in the next hour my mind does not wanders anywhere and i get done more in less time. the main element of efficient studying are two things attention/focus and interest. when you are studying and both these things are present only then more gets done in less time.
thankyou so much for reading if you made it thus far.
make sure to actually do the steps and stay consistent because vision without actions is nothing but a dream.
